NEW GPC INC. is pleased to announce that, in recognition of its role as a partner in the fight against HIV/AIDS and its responsibility to the people of Guyana, it has commenced the manufacture of Anti-HIV/AIDS drugs.
This initiative is conceived as a supporting mechanism for the Government's recently announced Anti-AIDS/HIV programme and represents the company's most significant contribution to this cause as a socially-conscious corporate citizen.
The company has long believed that the effective treatment and prevention of the spread of HIV/AIDS lies in social partnership. It recognises that as a Guyanese company and the country's oldest and largest pharmaceutical manufacturer, it is duty bound to support and participate in the battle against this pandemic.
The newly-privatised company has risen to the challenge and committed its financial, technical and human resources to this initiative. It has significantly upgraded its quality control and quality assurance systems and acquired High Pressure Liquid Chromotography (HPLC) and a number of other instruments, to facilitate in the manufacture and analysis of these Anti-Retrovirals and ensure products of uncompromisable integrity.
The Anti-Retrovirals will be of a standard and quality equal to that of any first-world manufacturer but will not carry the burden of their heavy price, placing them within the access of infected Guyanese.
The raw materials and technical assistance necessary to manufacture these drugs have been obtained from an international pharmaceutical company based in India which already manufactures these drugs.
This initiative makes NEW GPC INC. the first pharmaceutical company in the region to undertake the manufacture of Anti-Retorvirals and represents yet another first for the pharmaceutical leader.
The company is grateful for the support and encouragement received from the Minister of Health, the AIDS Secretariat and the Government of Guyana in the realisation of this pioneering endeavour.
